We are very excited about our upcoming trip this weekend! We are taking our E-trek to one of our favorite destinations: Antietam National Battlefield in Sharpsburg, Maryland. Pictured above is the North Carolina Memorial which had just been installed during our 2012 trip. The crew was still on site when we arrived at South Mountain, a few miles from Antietam. The installation crew told us that if we walked a quarter mile into the woods, we would see a beautiful memorial. By the time we found the monument–although it was well worth the journey–we wished we would have left a trail of breadcrumbs to find our way back!
We have visited Antietam numerous times over the past 25 years; however, this will be the first time with our new E-trek. In the past, we have stayed at the The Bavarian Inn, across the Potomic River from Sharpsburg in Shepardstown, West Virginia. We are still planning to eat in their restaurant Saturday night. I can’t wait to enjoy their delicious Maryland Crabcakes!
We thought Halloween would be the perfect occasion for this trip, and after dinner we may take a ghost tour of Sharpsburg Saturday night, Sharpsburg Civil War Ghost Tours.
We are not sure where we will stay for the night. We are hoping we can park at the Bavarian Inn, but if not, we may stay at a nearby winery, since we are members of Harvest Hosts.
